    Your EDUCATION COMMITTEE, to whom has been referred

 

SENATE BILL 37

 

has had it under consideration and reports same with recommendation that it DO PASS, amended as follows:

 

     1. On page 1, line 13, before "REQUIRING", insert "REQUIRING THE USE OF EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICES FOR BILITERACY FOR ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNERS AND STUDENTS IN BILINGUAL AND DUAL LANGUAGE PROGRAMS;".

 

     2. On page 2, lines 2 and 3, strike "a comprehensive full course of study that is".

 

     3. On page 3, line 11, after "learners", insert "and students in bilingual or dual language programs".

 

     4. On page 5, line 10, after "instruction", insert ", including requirements for supporting English language learners and for biliteracy instruction".

 

     5. On page 7, lines 21 and 22, strike "a comprehensive full course of study that is".

 

     6. On page 9, line 3, strike "and materials" and insert in lieu thereof "shall be high-quality instructional materials. Materials".

 

     7. On page 9, lines 6 and 7, strike "high-quality instructional materials that are" and insert in lieu thereof "culturally and linguistically relevant,".

 

     8. On page 9, line 10, after "learners", insert "and other students".

 

     9. On page 9, line 11, after "literacy", insert "and biliteracy".

 

     10. On page 9, line 12, after "home", insert "or other".

 

     11. On page 10, line 25, strike "monthly" and after "progress", insert "at least four times each school year".
